CHANDLER FOR CONGRESS
Early in his first term President Obama made promises that his administration would work to lower our dependence on foreign oil. Didn't happen. When gas prices were near or over the $4.00 mark there were rumors of releasing the strategic oil reserve to stabilize prices. Didn't happen. His opposition to drilling has made us more dependent than ever on foreign oil. Now in his second term he wants us to trust him.
The Republicans have done no better. The politicians have debated a comprehensive energy policy for decades and still can not seem to get it done. Energy policy is driven by profit with the consumers and taxpayers bearing the burden, while the politicians are in bed with the oil companies and both are laughing on the way to the bank. How many times have the oil company executives come before congress to testify about excessive profits? They receive little more than a slap on the hand and told they have been bad boys so they continue their practices of fleecing the public.
In order to reduce our dependence on foreign oil we must ask two basic questions.
Who sets the world oil prices and what gives them the authority to do so? Why as
Americans who are naturally opposed to monopolies, are subject to this pricing and do not have a domestic market in competition with it? A little research might surprise you. Most American oil companies have been bought out by International corporations and have little interest in protecting the American market. America must invest in companies that will create a domestic market in competition with the world market and be willing to increase the supply to lower prices. If the government offered incentives to small American companies and start up companies and at the same time add a tariff to imported oil, Domestic produced oil would be less expensive. Business always follows the money and all the oil companies would more likely produce more domestic and import less. We must ask ourselves one final question. The natural resources in America belong to it's citizens. In many oil producing countries the governments issue payments to their citizens from oil profits. Our government receives payments for gas and oil leases on government lands. What is your government giving you?
This is becoming a bit of a habit, us meeting like this. But if you are reading this you really want to try out Wix. Go on then.
